Philosophy

Rainbow Bridge Preschool fosters a life-long love of learning by offering a
diverse preschool learning experience for children ages 2-5.  Rainbow Bridge
Preschool focuses on the development of children and offers two different
program styles to suit different family needs.  Rainbow Bridge Preschool
offers a Waldorf inspired classroom as a academic focused preschool
classroom.  Both classrooms foster a play-based philosophy.  Rainbow
Bridge Preschool is  non-sectarian in its programs, admission policies,
employment practices and all other operations and will not discriminate
against any pupil on the basis of ethnicity, national origin, gender or
disability.

Huckleberry Classroom
The Huckleberry Classroom is our Waldorf inspired classroom.  In the
Huckleberry Room we follow a rhythm of the day that is led by the teacher
and influenced directly by the children.  The classroom being a community in
itself, the children are given many opportunities to assist the teacher and their
friends in the activities that shape the rhythm of the day.  These activities
include baking, gardening, crafts and art projects, nature walks, storytelling,
puppet plays, soup making and circle time.
The themes that we observe in the Huckleberry Room are present all around
us in nature.  Our nature table in the classroom reflects the seasons on
doors, as do our songs and versus at circle time.  During nature walks, an
awareness and closeness to nature and it’s rhythms is nurtured outdoors.
The Huckleberry classroom is a play-based classroom where you will find
lovely wooden toys of many varieties.  Children may be observed in the play
kitchen, dress-up area, or in the play frame acting out their imaginary scripts.
We offer blocks, river stones, puzzles and other manipulative for the children
to engage themselves with.  Learning occurs naturally through play.  At circle
time there are playful songs regarding the calendar and letter of the week that
are sung, although teacher facilitated academics are not present in the
Huckleberry Room.  Children of the preschool age feel most secure in a
space that is warm, nurturing, and productive.  This is what we strive for in the
Huckleberry Classroom.

Thimbleberry Classroom
The Thimbleberry classroom is a morning and afternoon program that is
both academic and play based.  The curriculum in the Thimbleberry Room,
Mother Goose Times,  covers, among other topics, letters, numbers,
shapes, colors, sign language and Spanish.  The calendar and weather are
discussed during circle times.  Music and movement are also a part of that
sacred time.  A monthly theme is used to guide the children into learning
about caring, the 5 senses, hygiene, nutrition and health, among others.  Pre-
kindergarten skills are encouraged, but never expected.  Children are allowed
to choose whether or not to be involved in all activities.  A typical day
includes circle and story times, snack, art, optional nap, gross movement time
and creative play indoors and out.  A regular week consists of neighborhood
walks, gardening, baking, science water play and dress-up days.  The class
also participates in monthly field trips, which will be touched upon later in the
handbook.  The children interact with the other class on the playground.
Overall, the Thimbleberry Room is a loving, caring environment where the
whole child is enriched through play and guided activities.

Both classrooms also have the opportunity to participate in Yoga twice a
month with a certified child yoga instructor.
